The Ship of Fools!

Ship of Fools by Hieronymus Bosch, 1490-1500
Ship of Fools by Hieronymus Bosch, 1490-1500

I said it before and I will say it again. Ship of fools! While the US economy is going to hell in a hand basket, the American president is talking about gay marriage. Not that he would win any additional votes by doing so. Hardly any gays vote for the Republicans, so there must be something else that made such change of mind necessary.

Money? The press reported that a fundraiser in California generated $15 million in only ninety minutes. Romney's campaign does not even get that much money in a month. But the money flow was only a side effect of the President's endorsement of gay marriage. This was a rather well calculated maneuver to put Romney in a negative spotlight.

Sooner that we could even fully embrace the implications of Obama's "evolving" opinion, the once respectable Washington Post published a front page article about pranks of an adolescent Romney! Any tabloid would do that and Washington Post is on its way to become one.
"If, as Governor of Massachusetts, Romney shaved Barney Frank's head then we might have a story." - Bill O'Reilley
I could see the mischief in Governor's left eye, but now I know that he was quite a number in high school. Cutting off the hair of a schoolmate? Mr. Romney!

The whole thing would not have been worth mentioning if the Washington Post had not  stated that Romney's victim was gay. And even this wouldn't be such a big problem if they did not try to establish a pattern of behavior here.

Romney's opposition to gay marriage is a well known fact. But an attempt to demonstrate that Romney is a gay bashing bully because he "hazed" a gay guy in high school, is a cheap shot.

In an interview Governor Romney could not recall the incident that took place more than fifty years ago. However, he apologized for any pain he might have caused adding that his "attack" wasn't sexually motivated.

In the sixties sexual orientation wasn't an issue among kids. We lived in a different world. Those of my readers who still remember the sixties may recall that most gays, especially the adolescent ones, sat tight in their closets.

But the Washington Post is trying to paint a much different picture here. While President Obama embraces the gay community, Romney has a very dark past. Once a bully, always a bully. See the behavioral pattern?

So if this is the case, why doesn't the Washington Post run an article about Obama's adolescent sins? Mr. Obama admitted that he used drugs when he was young. Yes, drugs.

We all know that marijuana and cocaine are highly addictive substances. Does this mean that the President is using drugs because he did so in the past? Certainly not. Adolescents often experiment with forbidden substances and no one would even suggest that there is a behavioral pattern in Mr. Obama's simply because he did something as a young man.

The liberal media bias is nothing new. Besides, Republicans are an easy prey. Simply mention abortion, contraception or gay marriage and you've "got" them. The God-fearing Republicans have a rather "medieval" view on sexuality and life as such. And they love their guns. And money. Especially their own. And they are very worried about the direction the country is taking.

President Obama cannot run on his economic record. He can only win if he is able to demonstrate that his opponent is unworthy of the Office: "a gay bashing, dog abusing rich man who does not worry about the poor and likes to fire people." And when a national debt of more than $15 trillion becomes a mere footnote in a presidential achievement book, we can expect anything. This is only a beginning.
